What is it like to work on a cargo ship?

I am no longer working on a research ship.

I'e been a ship's administration for more than 40 years while I have seen many changes. Looks like now:
1.) On ships anchor for short periods, they keep watch of the Sea: 4 hours on 8 off. The port visits more, they work 8 to 16 off.
