Micro-yacht club makes big progress

Ahoy! The Civano Micro Yachting Pairing is on the move. The group has had two meetings, one breakfast and two well-attended sailing regattas (that's woman talk for "floatin' your boat").

As a result of some publicity this summer, the association has increased its membership to 12. Almost half of the members have sailed either micro yachts or the right McCoy. The other half are "motivated."

Since most of the new members live outside Civano, the class decided to change its name to Pima Micro Yacht Club.

At its last convocation, the group took the big step of selecting its "preferred" club knockabout. This is the boat the club will encourage both entry-level skippers and more practised racing-type skippers to use or purchase. After much discussion, the Victoria was selected to be our "foremost" sailboat; the Soling, the "secondary" boat; and any long-keeled boats will be for the trustworthy speed folks.

The Victoria is a very popular 30.7-foot protracted, 4.5-pound, 43-inch tall out-of-box, ready-to-go speedboat, and costs approximately $176 - complete with full electronics. It can be in the water with about 10 hours of setting up time.
