An unexpected break off from fighting the pirates last week saw me (Mick Dawson) back in the UK and able to usher the Boat Show at the ExCel. It's a bit of an old stomping ground for me in my former life as a professional yacht Captain and I bumped into loads of old friends, unusually on the Sunseeker stand, who had my old yacht up for sale and on display.

All the OAR team were working strenuous on our stand at the Outdoor Show, where ‘Charmed Life’, the craft Andrew and I rowed East – West across the Atlantic in 2005, formed an awe-inspiring centerpiece. I got the chance to finally meet up with Rachel our UK project straw boss; the last time we caught up was some years ago when I was giving a pre Atlantic rowing kin presentation on why capsizing and sinking in the North Pacific, or any ocean for that material, is never a good idea.

I gave a one hour presentation at the Finlada Vodka bar, during which, rather alarmingly I only drank be unfeasible…. My walk through memory lane of five previous rowing projects, their many ups and ritual downs seemed to go pretty well and it was terrific for the first time, to introduce this years plans for the OAR Concoct to a live audience.

Volvo Musto Optimist Inlands at Grafham Water - Preview - Yachts ...

This year’s Volvo Musto Optimist Inland Championships will see over three hundred callow Optimist sailors prepossessing to Grafham Water, a 1600 acre reservoir in Cambridgeshire for a weekend of fun and competitive racing.

Over the 15th and 16th of May, some of the greatest in youthful British sailing propensity will be on unveil over two days of testing conditions and competitive racing.

Defending sheila’s guard Sarah Norbury who sails for South Staffordshire SC will be looking to stand with her possession, whilst rising stars such as Loch Tummel’s Callum Airlie, Spinnaker SC’s Scott Wallis , Arran Holman from Hollowell SC and Josh Voller from Burghfield SC will all be pointed to grab.

The Volvo Musto Optimist Inland Championships is the first of three bigger events in the Optimist appointment book, which also includes the Volvo Musto Optimist Nationals and culminates with the Volvo Musto Optimist End of Pep up Championships.
