I like the body of a tall ship day seaworthy and something comfortable enough for two to continue. How many man hours does it take to build a 60-75 foot sailing catamaran. What would be the estimated rate of raw materials.

When the Public Marine Manufacturers Association pulled out of the San Diego boat show four years ago, the municipality’s marine industry was left in a lurch.

“Shows are important to the boating saving just as car shows are important to the automotive industry,” Jim Behun said earlier this week. “Shows oust interested parties and the industry together.”

So three years ago, Behun launched his own show at the Sunroad Turn to Marina on the east end of Harbor Island.

“We didn’t know how it would be accepted at first,” said Behun, who no longer had the composition power of the San Diego Convention Center for the show.

But the third annual Sunroad Vessel Show opening a four-day run at noon Thursday is the biggest yet. There will be more than 130 boats in the the highest at the marina plus a display of trailer boats and 100 booths linked to boating.

“One of the things we’re most proud of is the way we’ve targeted our show,” said Behun. “Everything at our show relates just to boating.
