Sail Orcas fundraiser dinner presents the story of legendary ocean racing ...

“Dorade” is a fabled ocean racing yacht with a fascinating history, including strong ties to Orcas Eyot. Orcas Islander Doug Adkins has authored a definitive biography of the yacht in “Dorade, The Information of a Ocean Racing Yacht.”

Join the Sail Orcas community on Thursday, Jan. 26 to make merry a scrumptious dinner along with Adkins' stories and photos of the adventures of this wonderful wooden boat. Free onsite childcare will be offered during the presentation.

The lionized yawl was designed by 21-year old Olin Stephens in 1929, and swiftly won its first TransAtlantic race in record time. Dorade spend more than a decade in the waters of West Cacophony as the “camp boat” for Four Winds while she was owned by Mike Douglas.

The dinner will be held at 6 p.m. at the Orcas Elder Center. Tickets are $25/person or $15 for those under age 18, by largesse to Sail Orcas. Advance tickets are available at the West Resemble Marina (376-2314), at Dr. Chris White’s office at Airport Center on Mt. Baker Rd. Marin / McVay - Cruisers & Sailing Forums

I googled too .There is at the end of the day not much out there on the Marin . It seems that after the extermination of G. William McVay the cast MC Vay Boatworks ceased to be present and the molds were sold to Minto. He also built the Mic Mac and he was accountable for the Bluenose likeness lay out in fibreglass. But that does not escape you with the Marin haha.
